From his early childhood experiences, Freeland developed a personal interest in gardening. Years later, he challenged himself to design and develop his own private one-acre botanical retreat in his home town of Napa, California. Freeland and his wife, Sabrina, joined many gardening clubs and invited people to visit and shared their garden with others. What followed became many garden magazine photo features and HGTV garden tours for various shows from 2000 to 2004. SUNSET Magazine was the first garden magazine publication of his garden in 1989. The most recent publication, in FINE GARDENING magazine, February 2011, issue.
Freeland’s professional career as a landscape designer began in 1995. His vivid imagination enables him to see the most challenging hillside situations as accessible, beautiful and dynamic personal retreats for his clients. Freeland’s abilities as a draftsman, master carpenter, and metal fabricator all become part of his artistic design platform when creating these garden spaces. His horticultural experience with plants began as a child and has developed greatly and enthusiastically over the years.
Freeland’s designed gardens are welcoming, engaging and reflect the owners’ desires to have something very special in their private spaces.
